Our Story

Our story begins with a man and woman. The man, Carmine, my grandfather, and the woman, Joyce or Josie, as he called her, my grandmother. Their story began in 1952. Two teenagers who fell in love, got married and began a family.

In 1965 my grandfather bought property in Saugerties, NY. It’s safe to say that we have been here ever since. Not only did I spend every single summer here (from Brooklyn), but so did my mom and her siblings, as well as the rest of our first, second, and third cousins. This was a space he created for his family. A place we gathered, we laughed, we cried, we had fun!!! But most importantly we were together. Had this place never existed we would not have had such a close knit family. As a child, of course we never see the value in these things. As an adult I couldn’t be more thankful to this man for creating this place.

My grandfather passed away in March 2019. A few months prior, I made a decision to move from NYC to Saugerties. He was so happy that I was here. He wished everyone else would follow. The opportunity to open Josie’s came along and I took it. It’s safe to say, I did exactly what he did all those years ago. I created a space. One in which, I want people to gather, to build community, to connect, and feel at home.
